What's in your makeup? Well, probably a number of things that none of us would want on our skin.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body, so everything you put on it is ingested through your pores.
Since I started my business back in 2013, I have always been aware that there must be a better way; in everything. I stocked my kit with French made cosmetics because the EU had banned 1,328 chemicals from cosmetics that are known or suspected to cause cancer, genetic mutation, reproductive harm or birth defects.
Canada has more stringent laws in comparison to the US, but not as restrictive as the EU. The U.S. FDA has only banned or restricted 11 chemicals from cosmetics! The EU also prohibits animal testing for cosmetic purposes; that being said, if the cosmetic is sold in China for instance, the Chinese government does conduct 3rd party testing. Therefore, many French companies for example have lost their "cruelty free" label, which leaves all of us in a tough spot. So, what now?
I started searching for replacements for my own personal care items as a start. Shampoos, deodorant, toothpaste (which is actually one of the most toxic items you are probably using right now) and makeup.

Being an artist, I have tried a few other "natural" lines, but was always disappointed with how they actually worked. Poor blending, lack of pigment, etc.
I am happy to say that Elate Cosmetics have passed my test! Their lipstick is incredible; shea and mango butter with vanilla essential oil makes their lip line some of the best I've ever tried. The colour below is "Tantric" and it is the bomb literally. I've tried this myself and being more ahem, mature, I've broken with wearing bold colours but this one actually looked great on me.
